10. Complain you have to download the update
Chances are that the devs anticipated you might want to get in right away. Chances are also good that the game can download an update automatically. You weren’t silly enough to turn your computer off last night were you?
9. Complain you can’t log in
Ok, so you and half the population took a break three months ago because you got tired of grinding the same endgame content on all nine alts across three servers day after day, week after week. I get that. But when you and your thousands of fellows decide to come back en masse, do you really expect that you can all log in together at the same instant?
8. Complain that the game should have more servers
Servers are expensive. Adding new servers to existing infrastructure is expensive. Adding enough to handle a massive spike in usage that will go away in a couple days is even more expensive because those servers usually sit around cold, sucking up maintenance money without providing any.
7. Suggest that expansions should only be released every 2 years
…Bbcause that way all the bugs can be ironed out. Seriously? Ok, it sucks that the friends list is broken, and you can’t post to the auction house, but no amount of testing is going to find everything that’s wrong with any software. It might be obvious to you, but no two PCs are identical, so if you weren’t in the beta, chances are the devs didn’t see it happen.
6. Complain there’s not enough content
Oh my. Did you do a speed run through the main storyline? You did know that it doesn’t go on forever right? The next update is months away, and end game isn’t going to entertain you forever. Take time to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the new scenery that the devs spent ages putting together. It’s awesome.
5. Complain about the preorder/customer service on Twitter/Facebook
Yes, yes, it’s the Social Age and all that, but with the launch and everything, might the company not have bigger things on its plate than to listen to your (legitimate) claim in an unstructured environment like Facebook? Make it easier on everyone and lodge a support request. Expect it to be triaged and responded to in a suitable timeframe. That means “not immediately”.
4. Complain that your guild folded
Did you expect that nothing would change if you were away for half a year? When people log in and they don’t see a friendly face for weeks at a time, they’re bound to start looking for greener pastures. If you really cared, you could have stopped by to say “Hello” once in a while.
3. Write a blog post telling the whiners they’re a bunch of ingrate scum
Lets face it, you’re just bitter that they all have the free time to sit in front of the game for hours while you go to work.
Did I say 10 things? Oops! Must have been able to get in and start playing!
