Even though he’s very late in taking the piss of Mass Effect, Shamus Young has some interesting points regarding the Asari in general, and the consort in particular.
Personally I’m slightly disturbed by xenoeroticism, but Bioware obviously thought there was a market for that sort of thing. Can anybody tell me they weren’t at least somewhat put off by the whole notion of sticking it inside the blue thing with tentacles on her head?

I remember being miffed when my stoutly heterosexual female lead made a few odd conversation choices when talking to the Consort and then started marking out with her – without her player’s consent! 🙂
Wanky explanation: Perhaps they radiate psychic sexual energy and their true form is unknown, possibly Cthuloid in nature. And they look like blue versions of one’s native species. And you have hot mental sex with them, rather than physical sex. there you go.
(Even for a blatant fan service style race, they could have explained them a bit better in the context of their own setting…)
